Monthly roundup: best book, a series, the most useful video, the skill I worked on, a hypothesis, a habit, and the key insight. December 2023.
1) Best book
Steve Harvey, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man”. It does a very good job of laying out the basics of male psychology. If you want to understand male logic and motivation better, it’s a good investment of your time.
2) Movies and shows
I felt like rewatching “The Mentalist”. It has its own inimitable atmosphere and charm.
3) Most useful video
T.D. Jakes’ interview with Steven Furtick, called “Don’t Drop The Mic”. If you understand English, it’s better to watch it in the original.
4) The skill I worked on
I tried myself as a field reporter. I was invited to speak at the Global Leadership Summit. Between the talks I had time to do micro-interviews with different people attending the event. The videos will be ready soon.
5) A hypothesis I tested
When you stay true to your principles, even if it means going against public opinion, an audience of like-minded people still forms around you.
On 21 December, Oleksiy Arestovych published (after first asking my permission) a message I had sent him privately on his Facebook and Instagram.
I assumed the people following Arestovych right now are smart, free-thinking people with critical minds. But when his followers started coming to me with their questions and requests for personal conversations, I was still pleasantly surprised by how educated and cultured they were.
So even though I hadn’t planned that effect from my message to Oleksiy, it’s a pleasure to talk to people who think.
6) The habit I was building
Writing every day. For 42 days now I’ve been opening my laptop daily to write down a few of my thoughts. I write about relationships, wealth and personal growth. So far I like it. This habit brings a lot of discipline to the other areas of my life too.
7) Key insight of the month
Don’t ignore the inner voice that insists you deal with something at an early stage. Later on, solving that very same issue becomes harder, more expensive and more stressful.
Want to go deeper?
Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
