How I shut everything down in Nova Kakhovka in 2017 and moved to Kyiv. The story of how one decision to attend a conference changed my whole course.
Or the story of how I moved from Nova Kakhovka to Kyiv in 2017.
In 2016 I was running an office that housed a small marketing agency, several online schools and an interior photo studio.
Alongside the paid corporate training I did for local companies, I would occasionally run free events for children and teenagers.
After one of those seminars for kids, Yuriy Marynchak — who at the time ran a home for orphans in Kherson — gave me a few tickets to the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) in Kyiv.
I decided to go. It was December 2016. At the summit I ran into a lot of people I knew, and I came away with plenty of insights, because the speakers were good.
In one of the sessions Serhiy Rozvadovskyi presented the Ukrainian film “Let’s Dance”, which he had produced. At that point he needed people who could help promote the film on social media. I had exactly that experience. I liked the idea behind the project, so during the break I walked up to Serhiy and told him about my skills and my vision for it.
He invited me to drive over to his office right then and pulled together the team working on the film.
That was the evening I met Hennadiy Samoylov, thanks to whom I was later able to get a foothold in Kyiv.
Hennadiy offered to let me stay at his place for a while and later introduced me to my first marketing client, Olha Sereda. She runs the furniture company Solokha. That was my first root in new soil, and the process of settling into the capital began.
Deciding to wind down everything I had in Nova Kakhovka was not easy. It was a very large resource base: an office, equipment, connections, clients, a team. It felt like pulling myself out of one soil by the roots and moving into new, unknown territory. But I felt I could no longer stay in my home town.
Later part of the team from Nova Kakhovka joined me, and we started building the marketing agency in Kyiv.
So one decision — to attend the summit and offer one of the speakers my help — led to a serious change of course for my entire life.
Only 7 years have passed, but how much my life has changed in that time…
