Starting an experiment: publicly tracking my progress in 3 areas — habits, skills, character — and sharing what's working and what isn't.
What do I want to improve in 2025?
As I’ve mentioned before, I want to run a new experiment on myself this year.
Under the hashtag #ost_virtual_character, I’ll be publicly showing all my progress as I move toward my goals. Of course, I’ll also share the failures and mistakes.
Right now I want to publicly mark my starting point, point A, across 3 areas:
- Habits
- Skills
- Character
Every change, for better or worse, will show up on charts. My ratings are always subjective, based on how I feel about them.
Every month I’ll try to show which things are working for me and which aren’t. I’ll share exactly what I’m doing in practice, and why.
Maybe this will be useful for someone, and I can inspire you to get better at digitizing your own life and tracking meaningful changes.
When you keep your finger on the pulse, you immediately notice when something’s heading the wrong way or moving too slowly.
A bit later I’ll spell out exactly why I want to track these particular things, and I’ll also share my goals for 2025.
As I’ve written before, my main goal for the next 12 months is digitizing my entire life and my work — and you’ll get to witness that process.
You’ll see that even very non-obvious things can be digitized calmly, if you actually want to.
And anything you measure in your life can be improved.
Right now I’m working on the concept of a community where every member, if they want, can create their own public avatar and join the process of pursuing their goals, strengthening their discipline, and building useful habits.
It’ll turn into a kind of movement for people who want to grow, develop, set goals, and achieve them. We’ll also be selecting people for the community based on shared values as much as possible, so I think there’ll be a strong effect from being surrounded by the right people and support.
Do you track any processes in your own life? How exactly do you do it?
