Optimise the Space Around You Every Day

Optimise the Space Around You Every Day

On day one you get rid of 1 unnecessary thing, on day two 2, then 3, all the way to day 30. Over a month that clears out 465 surplus items.

How do you substantially improve the space around you?

There’s one technique I now use regularly.

It comes down to periodically clearing out the space around you.

The task is this: on the first day you get rid of one unnecessary thing, on the second day you throw out two, then three — and so on up to day 30.

Over a month that adds up to 465 surplus items. They can be files on your computer or phone, physical documents, or objects of any kind.

At first it might seem you simply don’t have that many unnecessary things and digital files lying around, but practice always shows there are far, far more.

Our Time Management course started this Monday, and the group and I have begun clearing out everything surplus. It’s one of three assignments for this week.

Today I’m throwing out two things I don’t need. Tomorrow it’ll be three, and over the month 465 different items and files will end up in the bin.

Have you ever done a clear-out like this? How did it affect how you felt and how well you worked?
