An interview with Boiko

An interview with Boiko

One conversation during a conference break turned into a friendship, a joint interview and new contacts. In life, 99% of opportunities walk on two legs.

On the skill of meeting people and building relationships with them.

Last year an acquaintance invited me to an investment and financial literacy conference.

There were plenty of good speakers on stage, but the one that stuck with me most was Pasha Boiko talking about his approach to building an investment portfolio.

During the break I walked up to Pasha, even though there was a crowd of people around him, and started asking him questions. He remembered me, and later we got in touch on social media.

Some time after that Pasha invited me to his office, and we got to know each other better.

We kept running into each other at various financial literacy events and followed each other on Facebook.

Recently Pasha invited me over for an interview to talk about relationships and the family budget. And even though we hold fundamentally different views on some questions about marriage and relationships, that doesn’t stop us from discussing different points of view and respecting each other’s opinion.

Today we recorded the interview and covered a lot of hot topics: sex before marriage, joint versus separate budgets, living together before marriage, female leadership in the family, and much more. Pasha didn’t just ask me pointed questions — he also shared his own take on some situations.

The full episode will be available later on my YouTube channel “Dmitriy Ostapenko” and on Pasha Boiko’s channel.

I’m telling you all this to make one point: sometimes it’s worth not being afraid and simply introducing yourself to people you admire. A lot of interesting things can grow out of that later on.

If I hadn’t walked up to Pasha after that conference, he wouldn’t have introduced me to Myroslav Korol, with whom I now have a great relationship. There would have been no interview today, none of our useful conversations and none of the interesting overlaps ahead of us.

In life, 99% of opportunities walk on two legs, so the ability to meet people, be useful and build relationships is a must-have these days.

Do you find it easy to meet new people?

Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
