Either We Manage Our Problems or They Manage Us

When a problem finally catches up with you, it's angrier and bigger than it was at the first encounter. Yet most people wait until it has them by the throat.

Either we manage our problems, or they manage us.

I often see people choose the strategy of hiding from problems and avoiding them. When the problem eventually catches up, it’s usually angrier and bigger than it was at the first encounter.

But most people still won’t tackle a pressing question until it has them by the throat.

This happens with health, with finances, and in relationships with the people we love.

When something starts stabbing in our side, only a small percentage go to a doctor. Maybe it’ll pass on its own?

If you don’t engage with a health question in time, later on even an ambulance won’t always help.

When a wife tells her husband she’s short on attention and time together, he simply waves it off and ignores it. She just doesn’t understand how much he has to work to provide for the family…

And then, when it comes to divorce, he suddenly understands everything and is ready to work on the relationship.

Or a person thinks that a permanently negative credit card balance just means this is a bad patch, and everything will sort itself out later.

But the debts only grow, and the motivation to work only shrinks. After all, what you earn just has to be handed over. And so a person slides into a debt pit made of depression and exhaustion.

And so on, and so on.

Life signals to us constantly through various circumstances and problems. It keeps pointing at the areas where we’re closed off and unwilling to learn.

When a whisper doesn’t reach someone, a louder voice starts. If that doesn’t help, the shouting begins. If shouting doesn’t help, next come shoves — up to blows and blood.

Life presses on us hardest in the zone of our greatest blindness.

The more closed a person’s thinking is in some area, the harder life becomes for them in that area.
