Jim Rohn said the best thing you can give anyone is your own personal development. Here's why that's not a nice slogan but a very practical idea.
“The best thing you can give somebody is your own personal development.” — Jim Rohn
I came across that line years ago in the book “The Treasury of Quotes.”
At first I didn’t fully grasp how deep and how true it is.
Working on yourself is the wisest investment of resources there is.
Once you start that process, you begin to see yourself and the world around you differently. Your beliefs shift.
You start realizing that some traits you were used to counting as strengths are actually weaknesses — they hurt you and keep you stuck.
You stop scolding yourself and start talking to yourself, listening to your inner voice.
You stop clinging to old beliefs and become more open to new information and knowledge.
The coiled spring of internal demands loosens, and in its place come reasonable motivation and healthy ambition.
When you change yourself, you start seeing the people around you differently. You may start asking people questions, where before you’d talk mostly about yourself. You may start inspiring and supporting people instead of criticizing their ideas and doubting they’ll pull it off.
When you change, the Wi-Fi you broadcast changes too. The atmosphere around you becomes different, warmer.
People near you feel accepted and understood, instead of trying to keep contact with you to a minimum.
Imagine a world where people work on themselves instead of trying to remake everyone around them.
How much better and kinder that world would be than ours…
