Depth, self-awareness and emotional intelligence. The qualities I value most in my wife, and what makes our relationship steady over the years.
When we met, I was pleasantly surprised by her depth and self-awareness.
Our relationship started with friendship and long conversations about everything under the sun. We shared our plans for the future, talked about the experiences we lived through as children, discussed relationships and family, books and films.
There are people in our life we never get tired of talking to — and yet silence in each other’s presence is just as easy and unforced.
Nastya knows how to create an atmosphere of acceptance and emotional comfort around her. She has a very high degree of empathy and knows how to feel with another person. She has many other great qualities, but what I value most is her emotional intelligence.
She can recognise her own emotions and warn me in time if they’re negative and have nothing to do with me right now. She knows how to smooth over sharp moments and doesn’t stay upset with me for long, even when I mess up somewhere.
Nastya has a healthy kind of self-interest, but the main focus of her attention is on serving others and helping people. She takes care of me.
She has a constant appetite for growth and new experiences. She finds all sorts of useful books, listens to interesting speakers. She can easily organise her own leisure time and social life without me, when I’m working.
There are many more things she does wisely in our relationship, but I’ll stop here so the post doesn’t get too sugary.
Of course, we both have weak spots that we work on. Not everything in our relationship is perfect. We’re learning to build it and trying to understand each other better.
And what qualities drew you to the person you love? Why did you choose them?
Articles do not fix relationships
Texts give you understanding, but your situation is always more specific than any text. Fifty minutes is usually enough to see where the problem actually starts.
