130 Days in a Row of Writing Every Day

The first 100 days were easy; this past month I keep thinking "forget it". The motivation is gone, but the flywheel of discipline carries me forward anyway.

It’s been 130 days of writing and publishing a new post every day.

If the first 100 days were relatively easy, then over the last month I’ve repeatedly caught myself thinking: “Forget it! Why write every day? I invented this chore for myself…”

I’ve had thoughts of winding up this literary experiment.

But discipline is a very interesting thing. Once you’ve got the flywheel spinning, you keep moving on inertia. I just carry on writing, even without much motivation, simply to see how long I’ll last.

On some days there’s the desire and the motivation to share my thoughts, and on other days there isn’t. Today there isn’t. I’m writing on willpower alone.

There are always ideas for posts, because something is always happening in life and it can be written up on the blog.

It’s just that sometimes you get tired of writing about one single topic. I know perfectly well that the moment I write something about relationships and put up a photo of Nastya and me, the reach of those posts is dozens of times higher.

But I’m not chasing reach and likes. I calmly accept the idea that a wide audience isn’t all that interested in reading about personal growth, productivity and reaching goals. I rarely read that kind of text post myself.

I keep thinking that I need to build up a buffer of seven or eight posts in advance, so that some force majeure doesn’t break this unbroken run of daily posts. But on that front laziness is still winning, and for now I write on the same day the text goes out.

So what’s your prediction? How long will I last publishing at this pace?

Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
