Fifty days of writing daily: why text is a deeper way to talk to a reader than video, and why I am teaching myself to simply show up at the gym first.
It has been exactly 50 days since I started writing a text every day.
It is an interesting experience. It builds discipline and points my thinking toward useful ideas I can share on the blog.
You are calmly going about your business and then the thought hits: “you haven’t written your post yet!” You open the laptop, look through the drafts you prepared earlier. You start typing…
I can’t say that writing every day is hard for me. So far it is a fascinating experiment, and I am curious to see how long I can keep up this rhythm.
I have also noticed that text is a deeper way of communicating with a reader than video. Text often turns out more personal, it opens up the specifics of a topic, pulls you into the context and reveals the details.
When you record a video podcast, there is no way to erase the last couple of paragraphs and phrase the thought differently. Text gives you that flexibility and freedom.
I started building the habit of writing every day in order to develop literary discipline. I want to create the conditions and the environment in which I can start working on books, video scripts and other larger projects.
When you want a really good physique, before you teach yourself to train properly in the gym, you have to build the habit of simply showing up at the gym regularly. For me, writing one line every day is a way to teach myself to just show up at the gym.
And what habits are you working on right now?

Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
