How to Develop Discipline?

Discipline works like a muscle: even one small action in the morning switches the whole thing on. And the more disciplined you are, the more freedom you get.

No matter how good the decisions we make in our life are, without discipline they mean nothing.

Our gifts and talents are the tea, and discipline is the cup. It gives them shape and polish, it lets us actually use what we have.

Discipline is like a muscle. It grows when we put it to work. Even when we do something very small, it switches on the “whole muscle” of discipline.

For example, we decide that when we wake up in the morning we won’t pick up the phone, we want to drink a glass of water, then take a contrast shower and then do some exercises for the back.

The moment we wake up and go for the water instead of the phone is the moment we activate the “discipline muscle”. After that it is easier, standing under the warm shower, to turn the cold water on for a couple of seconds. And after that it is much simpler to start the exercises, because by then we have already used our discipline three times.

Most people consider themselves lazy and disorganised. They often scold themselves for not living the way they think they should. Personally, I believe we all live exactly the way we want to.

When a person has truly decided to change their life, discipline has to become their best friend.

Because in essence, discipline is freedom. The more disciplined a person becomes, the more options and opportunities appear in front of them. They can pick any goal or habit and start working on it systematically. And when there is no discipline, then whatever we pick, in 5-7 days we roll back to our current way of life and our current opportunities.

So, do you want to become a more disciplined person?

Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
