Friendship Between a Man and a Woman

Friendship Between a Man and a Woman

He texts a woman who is 'just a friend', she spends hours on the phone with a colleague. Three conditions under which such a friendship doesn't damage a marriage.

Does friendship between a man and a woman exist?

In a lot of families there is tension because the husband is in close contact with some other woman. Or the wife spends a lot of time on phone calls and texts with a colleague from work.

Often, when asked “What’s going on?”, the other person answers: “He’s just a friend!”

What do you do in a situation like this, and where is the line between a friendship with the opposite sex and your own relationship? And is friendship between a man and a woman even possible?

From my point of view it is possible, but only under certain conditions:

1. You are in a relationship with someone who has healthy self-esteem and no jealousy.

If your friendship with someone leads to fights at home, it’s better to end it. Your wife or husband is the most important person in your life. You can have plenty of friends.

2. You are on good terms with your partner and your sex life is in order.

If your relationship is difficult, you fight often, punish each other with isolation, coldness and withheld sex, and your emotional connection is broken, then a friendship with a man (or a woman) in that period can be thin ice. Better not to step onto it.

3. You know that your friend has no romantic expectations toward you.

Here many people say that in a friendship between a man and a woman one of them always has such hopes. From what I’ve seen, that isn’t always true. If both people have a happy marriage, they can be friends with someone without any trouble.

When you have something good, you don’t go looking for better.

Personally, I believe we can talk with and be friends with all kinds of people. What matters is that it isn’t a temptation for us and doesn’t create tension inside our family.

Some people think that if you don’t control, check up on and restrict the person you love, they will definitely take advantage of your naivety and trust to lie and cheat.

But people who are capable of that in a relationship will do it despite our jealousy and control. And those who have no need for it will stay faithful and sincere even with 100% trust and freedom.

I covered this idea in more detail in my YouTube video “Which men have no competition at all?”

I have female friends with whom I sometimes talk on the phone or meet in person.

Nastya has male friends she sometimes talks to as well.

I wouldn’t want my wife’s emotions and impressions to be limited to our relationship alone. If she has male friends and girlfriends who bring joy and new emotions into her life, then I am the first one who benefits from it.

Love without trust is barely viable.

Do you have friends of the opposite sex? How does your husband or wife react to that?

Texts give you understanding, but your situation is always more specific than any text. Fifty minutes is usually enough to see where the problem actually starts.
