For years I put off the actions that would have taken me to the next level. Success in anything is 80% psychology and only 20% mechanics and strategy.
“The results we are looking for are in the work we avoid.”
I heard this line recently and I really liked how precise it is.
There have been many stretches in my life when I knew exactly what to do and how to do it in order to reach the next level, and yet I avoided those actions in every possible way. A kind of internal self-sabotage.
That is how it was with my blog. I watched people with far weaker ideas (or so it seemed to me) gather a big audience around themselves.
I also saw people build businesses with decent revenue on low-quality products and services.
And even though those “unfair” results other people were getting annoyed me a little, I still kept avoiding a number of actions that were very important for me:
- I registered as a sole proprietor and became able to work with companies relatively late;
- I started delegating my work to other people late;
- I started working on my blog seriously very late (in May of 2022);
- I should have studied the experience of American educational projects and speakers much earlier.
The list goes on. I do not know why exactly I dragged my feet for so long.
Maybe I was not ready psychologically, maybe some inner demons were holding me back. I cannot say for sure, but I lost a lot of time.
Later, once I actually started doing what was needed, I was surprised at how much simpler and easier it all turned out to be compared to what my imagination had painted.
I remember getting my first decent results, sitting there and thinking: “I could easily have been doing all of this five years ago!”
That is why I often repeat that success in any field is 80% psychology and only 20% mechanics and strategy.
If I had taken up the psychological reasons that were holding me back earlier, I would have moved much faster. There is always a specific psychological reason why we do not act and keep the handbrake on.
So I completely agree with the idea that “the results we are looking for are in the work we avoid.”
Do you agree with it?
