I Spent Last Month Inside a Game

Six weeks on a new course: short videos, chatbots, viral topics. What I learned, what I'm changing in the school, and why the money came back many times over.

I spent the last six weeks on a new course.

In May I bought a program covering the art of storytelling, working with visuals, monetisation and a lot of other things.

The point of it was to teach students how to grow an audience and make money from their own products and services.

Of course, by the time the game started I already had some experience with social media and some results to show.

But over those six weeks I tried plenty of things that were new to me:

  1. I recorded videos of 25-35 seconds (very short by my standards).
  2. I set up a chatbot to send people videos instead of doing it myself.
  3. I tried new formats and made videos on topics I had never touched before.
  4. I spent most of my time researching topics with viral potential, and I think I now more or less understand the mechanics of a video that gets views organically.
  5. I filmed and published every single day (before that, we would calmly drive to the studio for a three-hour shoot and have a month’s worth of content).
  6. I got to see from the inside how all the processes on that course were built, and picked up a few tricks from colleagues who run launches far bigger than ours.

Overall it was a very interesting experience with a lot of insights. I now see clearly which parts of our own work are weak.

In the near future I want to seriously rebuild many of the processes in our online school.

Another result of the course: I started taking on more people for premium one-on-one work.

Looking at the outcome as a whole, the course paid for itself many times over and will noticeably speed up our growth.

Investing in your own education really does pay the highest dividends.
