Once a week I set aside 30 minutes: my list of goals, current results, uncomfortable questions. A simple habit that noticeably speeds up my progress.
How can 30 minutes a week significantly improve your life?
If you look at the past years from a bird’s-eye view, you can see that only a handful of important decisions shaped the course of our lives: moving to another city, the decision to train for a new profession, the decision to start a family with this particular person, and so on.
Decisions like that are rarely spontaneous. Most often they are thought through carefully and weighed up more than once.
Usually our lives are spent in the everyday rush of work; we’re constantly busy with something — our own activity, our family, or household matters.
But every important strategic decision in our life requires special conditions in order to be thought through and put into action.
That’s why once a week I try to set aside 30 minutes that I call “the weekly review”. It’s the time when I open my list of goals, look at the current results and the plans ahead, analyse what’s working and what isn’t, and ask myself difficult, uncomfortable questions.
I’ve noticed that this simple technique significantly speeds up my progress. Thanks to those 30 minutes, I make hard decisions much faster and more accurately — the kind of decisions that can move my life onto the next loop of growth.
It’s half an hour of pause from the rush. Time when the current trend of your actions can be assessed a little from the outside, and adjustments can be made.
A new level doesn’t happen by itself. It’s always about creating special conditions for making better decisions.
And do you find time in your schedule to work on strategy? To look critically at what’s happening right now and ask yourself uncomfortable questions?
It is rarely a lack of knowledge
