400,000 followers means dozens, sometimes hundreds of conversations a day. For two years I answered every message myself — and the avalanche keeps growing.
I can’t keep up with my DMs.
There’s been a steady trend these past weeks: more messages in my inbox than I have time and attention for.
This month we crossed a combined 400,000 followers. In practice that means dozens, sometimes hundreds of active conversations every day. Someone asks a question, someone buys our products, someone wants to know how consultations work, someone simply pours out their pain and tells me their situation.
For all two years of running this blog seriously (I started in May ‘22) I’ve always answered everyone in my DMs myself. Every other part of the social media work I delegated to the team long ago.
I wanted to keep the messages to myself for as long as possible, because a lot of people write personal, difficult stories, and they write them to me personally.
Here’s how it goes right now: while I’m replying to people on Instagram, new people are writing on Facebook and TikTok. When I get to Facebook and answer there, the people I wrote to on Instagram have already replied again — plus TikTok. And round it goes. I wander between apps wanting to answer everyone personally, while the avalanche of messages keeps piling up.
I currently spend several hours a day on messages and still can’t keep up…
If things don’t improve in the coming weeks, I’ll need to think of something.
