I know I should be in bed by midnight, yet I sit on YouTube until 2 or 3 a.m. On the evening boundary for sleep and how the mind tops up its dopamine.
I even read a book where Jeff Sanders makes some very good points:
“When you start waking up at the same time every day, you have no other option but to go to bed at the same time in order to get the amount of sleep you need.
The most effective way to get up early is to go to bed early.
Without a clear evening boundary you will probably stay awake longer than you planned, and as a result you won’t get enough sleep or you won’t get up with your alarm. Either way, your morning routine is broken from the very start.”
That evening boundary is exactly where I struggle. I often know intellectually that I should be in bed by midnight, yet for some reason I sit on YouTube until 2 or 3 a.m.
And it’s not that I only watch useful things — sometimes it’s pure entertainment and some podcasts.
Apparently that’s how my body tops up the dopamine it needs. When you work a lot, your mind goes hunting for positive emotions.
How did you manage to fix your own routine? (if you managed at all)

Reading helps, but what changes a life is specific steps, not reading. Fifty minutes of conversation is usually enough to see which steps are yours.
